One of the ways that our anxiety is reduced naturally is by the neurotransmitter GABA. When GABA receptors are stimulated, we feel relaxed or sedated. Anti-anxiety medication stimulates GABA receptors to provide relief. There are especially high levels of GABA in the amygdala.
